Why do you need phlebotomy insurance?

Whenever someone needs a blood test performing for a variety of reasons including diagnosing symptoms, for therapeutic reasons or general wellbeing monitoring, they go to a phlebotomist.

Phlebotomists are specifically trained in venepuncture which is the practice of drawing blood from patients. The blood sample is then taken, or sent, to a laboratory for analysing. Although many don’t realise, phlebotomy is a high-risk profession for many reasons due to the nature of the invasive procedure, use of sharps and exposure to bodily fluids.

Accidents do happen. Sometimes before, during or after a patients blood is collected a patient or the phlebotomist can get injured. The risk of infections in moderately high along with the consequences of incorrectly labelled blood tubes all increase the risk of an insurance claim being made.

As a phlebotomist, the last thing you need worry about is the thought of a lawsuit on your doorstep, especially when it comes to private sector work as it is the livelihood of the phlebotomist who suffers without the protection of a bigger organisation or limited company.
